EE students are encouraged to participate in research projects under faculty supervision. Opportunities exist through:

• Faculty-led projects: Approach faculty members directly if their research aligns with your interests. It is a good practice to first read about their work (publications, group webpage, or lab projects) and then write a concise email highlighting your interests, relevant coursework/skills, and how you would like to contribute. Most faculty welcome motivated undergraduates into their labs.
• SURA (Summer Undergraduate Research Award): Competitive program where second-year students undertake an 8-week summer research project with EE faculty. More information here.
• DISA (Design and Innovation Student Award): DISA, which complements SURA, provides opportunities for students to engage in design and innovation activities during the summer, leading to products/solutions that have the potential to reach people/market/industry. Unlike SURA, which is meant for only second-year students, this award is open to students of first, second, and third years as well. Undergraduate students selected for this award would be eligible to earn 2 units of Design/Practical Experience (NGU) if they complete the requirements of the same successfully as part of this award. Proposals can be submitted by student teams under the supervision of one or more institute faculty.
• Independent Study: Students can undertake independent study (as a department elective) for credits under a faculty mentor, focusing on specialized topics, literature surveys, or design projects not covered in regular courses.
• BTP/Capstone Project: The BTP ****or Capstone Project ****in the final year is an opportunity to integrate classroom knowledge with research or real-world problems. These projects often involve collaboration with industry, work in faculty research labs, and interdisciplinary efforts with other departments. They are expected to result in publications, patents, or startup ideas.
